According to NASCAR.COM and Sporting News wire services, Richard Childress and Kyle Busch got into an altercation after the CWTS race at Kansas. The altercation came as a result of Busch bumping Joey Coulter, driver of the #22 RCR Chevrolet. Coulter had overtaken Busch for fifth place after a spirited battle for the position with one lap to go. Coulter would finish fifth, Busch in sixth.
Apparently Busch didn't take too kindly to Coulter's style of racing, and he expressed his disagreement via the #18 Toyota AFTER THE RACE. Childress saw that, and he confronted Busch old-school style. After punching Busch in the face, he had him in a choke hold until they were separated.
Busch is on probation for ALL NASCAR-related matters until June 15th because of an incident between him and Kevin Harvick after the Southern 500 at Darlington. (Busch punted a driverless #29 Chevrolet as one of Harvick's crewmen was approaching the scene. Harvick threw a punch at Busch through the driver's side net; he is on probation as well.) This qualifies as a NASCAR-related matter. Should a suspension of Kyle Busch be in order for violating his probation? What say you? (ME: I say a TWO race suspension would be in order from ALL NASCAR races as a driver, a two-race suspension of the ENTIRE #18 Truck Series team, a loss of 25 points EACH in ALL NASCAR series, and a loss of 25 owners' points for the #18 Cup Series team. A message needs to be sent, and GOTTEN. But in reality, he'll get his probation extended until the end of the calendar year, and maybe a loss of points.)

I didn't see any of the races today, as I had to work. But, what you're describing seems to be more of Richard going after "gag" Kyle (sorry, I still get a little ill when I imagine his grinning face). If NASCAR saw what Richard saw, then yes, Kyle should be held to the previous probation standard, and be suspended. But, like I said, I didn't see it, and NASCAR may not have seen it either. Since they can turn a blind eye on Kyle, but glare at a Robbie Gordon, until they find something to fine him with!
So I didnt see the race either but Kyle confronting the kid AFTER the race - verbally?? I assume and then Richard punches him? Sounds like RC needs to some punishment to me...If Kyle only was in the kids face verbally then thats the appropriate way to handle it...if he laid hands on the kid then fine, suspend him. Richard will have some fine/punishment too.
Insane!
You decide whether or not you'll be coming to Sonoma yet Jon?
Hey CR--I saw part of the Nationwide race. Didn't see the truck race but saw the last few laps on NASCAR.COM. The short clip I saw of Busch and Coulter racing each other was very clean and spirited, with Coulter prevailing. I didn't figure on Kyle bumping Joey after the race, especially since he's on probation until the 15th. I think further penalties will follow.
Hey Kristen--I heard it this way: Kyle BUMPED him (Coulter) on the cooldown lap. Then RC met Busch in the back, punched him several times in the face and had him in a head lock. Apparently Busch tried to sneak into his hauler through the back but RC caught him and the rest is history. RC handled it the old-school way. Had Busch not bumped Coulter on the cooldown lap, he wouldn't be sporting a shiner. Busch had NO BUSINESS bumping Coulter around AFTER the checkered flag. Busch IMO violated the terms of his probation before the period was over. As far as Sonoma, unfortunately it's a no go for me this year. Hopefully next year. I'll send you all an email early this next week. You guys have a great time there!
Bummer you wont be coming Jon...we will visit Harvick's pit for ya and sign the wall in your honor!
Well sounds like RC is the only one getting sanctions - not allowed on pit road, in drivers meeting and has to watch race from hauler. Helton considered banning him from garage.
Sounds like part of problem is Coulter didnt have any problem with Kyle and even said they got together because he was tight.
Kyle pulled up beside Coulter's truck, if he touched the truck at all, it was very very light. I saw that replay 4-5 times. It didn't look malicious to me.
I doubt getting punched by an old man, and not hitting back, violates any probation.... NASCAR agreed with that Sunday morning.
Look for RC to be sitting at home for a couple of weeks.
Sorry I missed that.
